Teens on the Scene: A Teen Who Plans to Clean the Ocean? You Got That Right!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – when a teen gets an idea, just step back and get out of the way! It would be difficult, if not impossible, to come up with an idea, a concept, a solution, bigger than this one.
The Ocean Cleanup
Boyan Slat is a young Dutch inventor and entrepreneur who creates technologies to solve societal problems. He’s the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, which develops advanced technologies to rid world’s oceans of plastic.
When Boyan was 19, he dropped out of school where he was studying Aerospace Engineering. He had this idea that had been cooking in his head since he was 17 (or younger) – an idea that had to do with a way to clean the ocean of the plastics that are polluting it. He had to leave his studies in order to focus entirely on testing his theory.
Introducing the Prototype
You can find articles and videos all over the Net regarding Boyan and his amazing project. In this post, I’m including a 10-minute speech where Boyan introduces his first prototype. This video gives a good overview of the process of launching such a gargantuan project – and a gargantuan idea.
